The Future of A's Baseball

Justin Sellers

The first thing of note on Sellers is his size. As of now, he's listed at 5'10" 155 lbs. He can get away with the height, but how many players in the majors weigh 155 lbs? Last season was just his first full season, however, he will already be 21 entering next season. He made a ton of errors last season after being hyped as sure handed. He's a very good prospect with the background of baseball that the A's look for. He'll still need to add a ton of weight though before he's considered a real major league possibility.

  • are you going to post the BA chat again this year? I'd be most appreciative if you did

  • Sellers has bust written all over him. I also saw BA's list that came out today. I'm a little skeptical on how high they rated Jermaine Mitchell, he hasn't proven anything considering he hasn't reached Stockton.

  • Nah, I wont be posting this years chat.

I'm not a major fan of Sellers. Not sure he fits into the top 15, let alone the top 10.

Regarding Mitchell, every year BA gets over-excited about a guy who does well for 2 months to end the year after being drafted.

  • If you won't post the chat, could you at least share any info they spilled on Jimmy Shull? Is he going to be ready come ST?

  • Reason I wont post it is because I do not have access to it. I'd love to be able to share it.

  • Shull wasn't mentioned in any of the questions, though, he did said there was hope for Dan Meyer next year.

  • I'm very much in the opposite camp to you guys on Sellers.

He's just out of high school, so of course he weighs in light, and the reason he has all those errors is because he gets to balls he really shouldn't get near, and tries to turn tough plays that, as of yet, he doesn't have the maturity to hold back on.

I've seen that kid perform miraculous plays that stunned entire crowds into gasps. He might have a long way to go yet, but like Sulentic, he's got a lot of time to make the jump.
