A's Top 10

Kane County's Big 3

I actually have more beef with BA than I usually do. There are certain things I would have not agreed with but understood. Vince Mazzaro #9? I don't really understand it. Komine #8? It's also worth mentioning that they have Dan Meyer at #21. What worries me about Meyer so low is that BA bases a lot of their list according to the organizational opinions. Meyer so low may illustrate how the A's feel Meyer will pitch next season. As soon as I have BA's prospect handbook in my hands (I didn't know getting it from Target/Wal-Mart would make me 3 weeks late) I'll post the whole top 30 and whatever might be of real note.

  • Bobby,

are you a BA subscriber? Somebody needs to get in on the Goldstein chat!

  • I find it interesting that Melillo is ranked lower than Pennington and Buck. Sure the two are younger and were drafted higher, but you can't ignore the incredible season Melillo had. I would almost rank him third, if not second purely because of his numbers. I am also puzzled that they left out Rheinecker. He is older, but his season before he got hurt almost called for a promotion, or at least a trade to the Royals to be there ace.

  • I'm not actually, but I should be able to get the chat. I'll post anything of note.

I agree on Melillo, not so much on Rheinecker. While Rheinecker lowered his ERA and hits allowed a great deal, a lot of it seemed to be luck. He really didn't improve his K rate from when he was allowing 10 hits per 9 but was still able to yield just 6 hits per 9 last year.

  • Mazzaro at 9 without pitching is a surprise but lets remember they put Brad Sullivan at #4 one year just because he was a 1st rounder. I have zero faith in Dan Meyer sadly. Just a bad trade all around.

  • I agree on Melillo also. One thing I'm surprised by is that I've seen Melillo play quite a bit at South Carolina and even saw him in Stockton in a few games.I have always been impressed by his defense and athleticism. His defense seems to be getting a bad rap. I wonder what the A's organization thinks of his defense. When I saw him play he looked like a natural second baseman. Also I thought he was a much faster runner than average.
